With the aim of creating a convenient and sustainable environment for electric vehicle (EV) driving, SK rent-a-car unveils its mobile EV charging service in Jeju.

SK rent-a-car (CEO: Hwang Il-moon) said on the 16th that it signed a business agreement for sustainable and eco-friendly EV charging service with ‘SK on’, a company specializing in EV battery, ‘EVAR’, an EV charging service provider and ‘Mintech’, a company specializing in battery diagnosis.

The signing ceremony, held at Samil Building located in Jongno-gu, Seoul, was attended by Kim Hyeon-soo, the head of SK rent-a-car Mobility BM Development Division, Jung Woo-sung, the head of SK on E-Mobility Business Office, Lee Hun, the CEO of EVAR and Hong Young-jin, the CEO of Mintech.

On the foundation of this agreement, the four companies will join hands to develop a sustainable and environment-friendly EV charging service utilizing their expertise and know-how. In detail, the focus will be on ▲ the advancement of the ecosystem for mobile EV charging service and ▲ charging data collection and the co-development of a new mobility service based on the data.

EVAR takes charge of developing mobile charging solutions leveraging EV charging technologies while SK on secures used batteries from Niro, one of EV models, inspects the state of the batteries to _uate their safety, and then provides safe batteries for SK rent-a-car to use them for mobile charging service. SK rent-a-car is in charge of offering mobile charging service to its customers and garnering relevant data. And the data will be analyzed by SK on and Mintech takes on the roles of verifying the safety and effectiveness of the ‘battery after use’.

SK rent-a-car will operate the service on a trial basis at its Jeju branch and provide on-site service in the second half of this year. In addition, it plans to equip its mobile maintenance vehicles with EV charging solution to broaden its service scope to provide both car maintenance and charging services. By doing so, it will strengthen its role in making it more convenient for customers to use EVs.

Meanwhile, SK on assumes the role of monitoring the state of batteries used for mobile charging service in real time through ‘BaaS AI’, its own battery analysis solution developed last year, to ensure safety. Since last year, it has earned its know-how on the diagnosis of EV battery and the prediction of battery life working with car rental businesses and vehicle management application operators. The company aims to expand the scope of the analysis into batteries after use that can be widely utilized in various industries through this collaboration so that it can contribute to the establishment of the ecosystem in this field.

An SK rent-a-car official said, “top-notch EV-related companies join hands to bring a higher level of convenience in terms of EV charging as well as to establish a virtuous circle model for sustainable and eco-friendly EV battery.” And he added, “based on the battery data earned through this cooperation, we continue to discover opportunities for new businesses to provide distinguished and eco-friendly mobility services always putting customers first.”
