SK rent-a-car unveils ‘Smart Home Maintenance Service’ that comes to your home

SK rent-a-car (CEO: Hwang Il-moon) made an announcement on the 10th on its plan to operate ‘Smart Home Maintenance Service’ on a trial basis. The service enables customers to get their car serviced at the time and place they want.


The Smart Home Maintenance Service unveiled by the company is an O2O (Online to Offline)-based at-home car maintenance service, which means that a mechanic visits the place you appoint in person for the service you need, such as an engine oil or battery change.

For the launch of this service, SK rent-a-car collaborates with Carang, the No.1 platform company for on-site maintenance. Last November, SK rent-a-car solidified its cooperative relationship with this company by investing in shares. Founded in 2015, Carang has operated the brand named ‘Carsuri’ to provide at-home maintenance services for domestic and foreign vehicles. This test operation will give SK rent-a-car’s customers an opportunity to enjoy high-quality services offered by Carang at reasonable prices regardless of whether they sign up for maintenance products or not.


This Smart Home Maintenance Service makes it easy and convenient for customers to reserve a date and place they want to get repairs done through the mobile application. Another benefit is to enable customers to compare various products and make a rational decision. Therefore, it is of use to customers who are too busy to visit a repair shop or who want to carefully weigh up the pros and cons of consumables by manufacturer.


Especially, it provides a 20% price discount for engine oil exchange and a 5% discount for battery exchange. And the price gap is not bid compared to the price you pay for the service you receive by visiting a repair shop. The opportunity cost of visiting in person makes this at-home service more attractive.


It is very easy to use the service. Customers enter a few details regarding the service they want, such as exchange of engine oil, battery, washer fluid, air conditioner filter, or wiper, through ‘Smartcare,’ the mobile car management application for SK rent-a-car’s customers along with a date and their home address, and then pay for the service. This service boasts a variety of in-demand branded products for each item so that customers can compare products in terms of detailed features and price. .*Please check out available areas for service by maintenance item on the Smartcare application.


When a customer completes an application, the mechanic will show up at the appointed hour for the service, and also conduct seven free-of-charge basic checks for tire pressure and wear, moisture in brake fluid and brake pad, engine oil and battery, and engine room cleanliness for the sake of driver’s safety. After the maintenance, a detailed report is available on the Smartcare application which makes it easy to track the history of vehicle maintenance.


The company plans to operate the service on a trial basis for a month, and then complement the service based on the usage data to roll out the service within the first half of this year.


An SK rent-a-car official said, “we unveil this service to give an opportunity to enjoy vehicle maintenance service at more reasonable prices to customers who use our long-term car rental service but do not sign up for maintenance products.” And he added, “We also plan to broaden the scope of service to reach out to more customers with the launch of the same service for electric vehicles (EVs).”
