- “We will keep assisting the underprivileged, not only poorly-fed children but also the old living alone and the mobility impaired”

Promoting win-win growth with various stakeholders in Jeju, SK rent-a-car goes hand-in-hand with the undernourished children in Seogwipo, Jeju.

SK rent-a-car (CEO: Hwang Il-moon) announced on the 29th that it had signed a business agreement concerning the ‘Happy Two Meal’ project on the previous day with the social contribution network Happiness Alliance, the household furniture brand iloom, and Jeju Seogwipo City to help resolve the issue of poorly-fed children.

The signing ceremony was held at ‘The Annex Hotel’ located in Seogwipo, Jeju, attended by 21 officials, including Jang Bong-geol, head of SK rent-a-car’s ESG Management Office, Cho Min-young, head of Happy Alliance Secretariat (Happy Narae), Kang Seong-moon, CEO of iloom, Kim Tae-yeop, mayor of Seogwipo City, Kang Jong-woo, director of Jeju Social Economy Support Center, and Lee Joo-il, head of Seogwipo Oreum Self-help Center.

‘Happy Two Meal’ is a collaborative project with the members of Happy Alliance, including the government agencies, companies, and communities, to support the poorly-fed children based on the local cooperation so that the undernourished children can be healthy not being concerned about meals.
* Happy Alliance is a network gathered by companies, local governments, and citizens who sympathize with the problem of poorly-fed children, aiming to jointly resolve social issues. Currently, 108 companies, 37 local governments, and 135,000 citizens have joined to make regional alliances and spread them with the objective of eradicating the problem of undernourished children, targeting zero hunger.

SK rent-a-car participated in the Happy Alliance in 2018. Through the agreement, the company will donate a total of KRW 52 million for ‘Happy Lunch Box’ project to 80 children in need in Seogwipo for eight months in cooperation with another participating company, iloom. Seogwipo City will be in charge of selecting recipients of the Happy Lunch Box project, while Seogwipo Oreum Self-help Center, a social enterprise, makes and delivers the lunch box for the children. Seogwipo City and Jeju Social Economy Support Center plan to prepare for the continued support beyond the agreement period.

An SK rent-a-car official said, "it is too bad that there are children worrying about feeding themselves when they should grow up without worries. We have participated in the project hoping to be a little help to those children, and we thank Happy Alliance for giving us this meaningful opportunity.” He added, “We believe it is critical to make a habit of caring more about our neighbors. Going forward, we will continue to help the underprivileged, not only poorly-fed children but also the old living alone and the mobility impaired.”

SK rent-a-car, which operates the short-term rental car business on the largest scale in Jeju, has gradually developed various win-win partnerships with the Jeju community. In March last year, the company participated in the 'Meal Sharing Ontact Project' promoted jointly by SK Group and donated a total of KRW 100 million together with SK pinx and Jeju UTD in order to improve the quality of meals provided to the elderly in Jeju. On top of that, the company joined a government-private partnership project called 'Companion Beach’, hosted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries last July, and adopted ‘Hyeopjae Beach’ as a new family. The coastal cleanup activities are also carried out regularly, at least three times a year. On the 27th of this month, 26 employees of SK rent-a-car conducted the first cleanup activity this year to fulfill the corporate social responsibility together with the local communities.
