SK rent-a-car takes the lead in the industry trend with its innovation in rental fee calculation method as it has led the transformation of the rental car market under the ‘from possessing to renting’ motto.

SK rent-a-car (CEO: Hwang Il-moon) announced its plan on the 17th to launch 'TAGO PAY', a rental product that calculates fares based on the actual mileage.

TAGO PAY introduced a new concept of rental product as the first in the industry to allow customers to use a new car as if it were their own during the rental period, paying only for the amount they ride every month. The accurate mileage is calculated based on the mileage recorded on the dashboard, utilizing 'Smartlink', which is a comprehensive automobile management solution incorporating SK rent-a-car's latest IoT technology. Besides, customers can check the mileage of their vehicles every day through 'Smartcare', a vehicle management application and book an inspection at the time of driving for one year (or 10,000 km) from the contract date.

SK rent-a-car designed this product for customers whose purpose of driving is short-distance commuting or weekend trips, making annual vehicle mileage less than 10,000 km.

For example, the rental fee of an Avante model when driving 300 km a month would be about KRW 290,000, which is less than KRW 10,000 per day. In the era of coexisting with the pandemic, so-called 'With Corona’, this can be a great alternative solution for those who dream of non-face-to-face smart work. Furthermore, car camping is possible using Santa Fe for less than KRW 20,000 a day.

An SK rent-a-car official said, "this new rental product breaks the stereotype that rental cars are advantageous to only corporations or people driving a lot as it allows to pay for the amount of actual mileage," explaining that “TAGO PAY will be a reasonable option for customers whose annual mileage is not too high.”

TAGO PAY offers two vehicle model options; Avante (gasoline) and Santa Fe (hybrid). TAGO PAY calculates the monthly rental fee by adding the mileage fee to the basic fee for each vehicle. And there are two types of fares; ‘basic saving type’ with reduced basic fee and ‘mileage saving type’ with lowered mileage fee.  ‘Basic saving type’ of Avante costs KRW 149,000 per month, and KRW 500 is added for every 1km. The same type of Santa Fe costs KRW 299,000 (KRW 600 per 1km is added).

TAGO PAY differentiates itself from existing rental products by providing a two-year basic contract period and eliminating various collateral conditions such as deposit, advance payment for rental fees, and guarantee insurance. In addition, SK rent-a-car plans to offer an extraordinary benefit of waiving the penalty after using it for 12 months only to those who have notified of their intention to cancel the contract 90 days prior to the time of 12-month usage.

SK rent-a-car officially launches TAGO PAY from the 23rd of this month, rendering services on a first-come, first-served basis. Customers can easily sign a contract on the SK rent-a-car Direct website (www.skdirect.co.kr) from 11 am on the day. Also, ‘live commerce,’ an online home shopping service is scheduled to be aired at 7 pm on the same day, explaining detailed product information.

An official from SK rent-a-car official said, "we will advance our customer-centric service level through introducing various car models in the future while analyzing customer and market feedback.”
