SK networks (President: Sang Kyu Park) announced on January 11 that it is participating in the Series B-2 funding round of 15 million USD on LVIS, a company specialized in brain circuit analysis.

LVIS is a company on diagnosis and treatment of brain diseases located in Silicon Valley (US). It was established in 2013 by Jin Hyung Lee, the first Korean female professor at Stanford University. LVIS has developed NeuroMatch, an AI based deep learning software which diagnoses and proposes optimal treatment options for various brain diseases such as dementia and epilepsy. In addition, the company is defensible with 20 patents and over 140,000 medical data accumulated for more than 13 years.

SK networks believes that LVIS will develop new diagnostic and treatment solutions in the brain disease field based on its cutting-edge technologies. Unlike other AI healthcare companies, LVIS is anticipated to become a digital neuro-health platform which covers all brain conditions by its expanded solution on diagnostic and treatment phases. The cost and time associated with the brain disease would be significantly lower with digital-based treatment approach. It should be noted that investment in LVIS has previously been made by SK Inc. as well in 2018.

SK networks has announced its transition to an operating investment company in the new year’s address, and has selected DT/AI (Digital Transformation/Artificial Intelligence) as one of the new global seeding investment areas. The partnership with LVIS established through this investment will be used to strengthen the network in the relevant field and seek additional investment opportunities. Advice from Professor Jin Hyung Lee will also be available.

SK networks Global Investment Center head, Han Jong Jung said, “It seems AI will be utilized across almost all the industries in the future and it is expected that the AI based digital healthcare industry will grow at 30% CAGR from 2020 to 2030.” He added, “This investment, though small in amount, will pave the way for mutual collaboration with LVIS to expand our investment on companies that have promising technologies in the AI realm.” End of document.
