SK rent-a-car (CEO: Hwang Il-moon) announced on the 24th that it had been selected No.1 by the Korean Standard Well-Being & Environment Index (KS-WEI) in the rental car sector for 11 consecutive years.
KS-WEI is the only well-being satisfaction _uation in Korea jointly developed by the Korea Standards Association (KSA) and Yonsei University. It selects the top company in each sector by measuring the level of well-being of products and services used by consumers through five sectors; Health, Environment, Safety, Satisfaction, and Social Responsibility.
SK rent-a-car, winning first place in the car rental category for 11 years in a row, is currently leading the domestic car rental industry by continuously introducing innovative services that add novelty and convenience to customers' mobility lives. The company was highly acknowledged for actively expanding the businesses driven by EVs, particularly in line with the current trend of carbon neutrality.
As a mobility rental business centering on EVs, SK rent-a-car plans to convert all its vehicles to eco-friendly vehicles by 2030. As of 2022, the number of registered rental cars is about 00, accounting for about 20% of the total. As part of it, SK rent-a-car issued green bonds worth KRW 98 billion for the first time since its inception in February last year and invested a total of KRW 170 billion, including the issued green bonds to purchase about 5,000 electric vehicles during 2021. It continues to actively invest in EVs for the expansion of its EV business.
In addition, the company is building Korea’s largest electric vehicle complex in Jeju to offer customers a differentiated electric vehicle experience. A total of KRW 40.6 billion will be invested in the complex that equips an electric vehicle rental center with an area of 280 square meters and an electric vehicle ecosystem infrastructure, while about 3,000 vehicles owned by the company are scheduled to be converted 100% to EVs by 2025. To this end, SK rent-a-car plans to build a 7,200kW charging facility in cooperation with the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) by 2025.
In addition, SK rent-a-car published a sustainability report for the first time in the industry in May. It is earlier than the legally obliged publication, 2025. Through the report, the company declared its firm will and sincerity on ESG management internally and externally while tightening the management and disclosure of information. The Sustainability Report revealed the company’s new ESG strategy, ‘A+MAZE’, and specified the concrete action targets for each strategic task. The publication will serve as an opportunity for the company to further create a sustainable society and environment.
An SK rent-a-car official said, “our multifaceted efforts to raise customer value have brought about the first place in KS-WEI for 11 consecutive years.” He added, “we will not only expand the opportunities for our customers to experience EVs but also lead in creating social value through carbon reduction.”
