SK rent-a-car has unveiled its pay-per-mile rental product, the first one in the industry.
On the 26th, SK rent-a-car (CEO: Hwang, Il-Moon) made an announcement that it widened the scope of its rental deal, ‘SK rent-a-car TAGO PAY’ (hereinafter ‘TAGO PAY’), into more car groups to cater to the needs of customers. ‘SK Rent-a-car TAGO PAY’ was launched last year on a pilot basis representing an innovative calculation of car rental rates.
‘TAGO PAY’, an online exclusive car rental plan that the company offers for the first time in the industry, enables customers to pay based on miles driven. Anyone can access the deal on the SK rent-a-car Direct website(www.skdirect.co.kr)
There is a common perception that renting a car favors those who drive long distances. It has given rise to a growing demand for products and services geared towards low mileage drivers. Against this backdrop, SK Rent-a-car designed ‘TAGO PAY’ benefiting short-distance drivers with reasonable prices.
‘TAGO PAY’ gained popularity from customers whose annual mileage was low when it came on to the market on a pilot basis in November last year. And all of the rentals under the deal were sold out. It turned out that the customers purchased this deal to rent cars for weekend driving, short-distance commuting, taking kids to schools, or they used the rental vehicles as their second cars to go for shopping or do other leisure activities.
Based on the feedback earned through the test operation, SK Rent-a-car launched ‘TAGO PAY’ on the 25th for commercialization, making a wider range of vehicles qualify for this deal including CASPER, GV70, IONIC5, and EV6. The company expects the expansion to give customers more options to choose vehicles suitable for their life_. It plans to expand this deal to other vehicle models.
Monthly rental rates are calculated by adding per-mile rates to basic rates. For example, the monthly basic rate for EV6 is KRW 299,000 and its rate per kilometer is KRW 600. If you drive 500 kilometers a month, it will amount to KRW 600,000. It means it costs less than KRW 20,000 a day to rent the latest model of an electric car.
Users don’t need to worry about estimated rates. The company’s total care solution, ‘Smartlink’, makes it accurate to calculate the rates based on actual mileage. In addition, its vehicle management application, ‘Smartcare’ gives customers access to various data such as vehicle conditions and mileage information. Customers can also request visiting service for inspection through this application.
SK rent-a-car will conduct live commerce for ‘TAGO PAY’ on SK rent-a-car Direct website at 7 pm on January 27. The details about eligible vehicles and contracts will be given. And customers can use this time to ask any questions about the deal in real time. Especially, the company will exempt customers who sign a TAGO PAY deal through this live commerce from being charged for the first 300 kilometers (up to KRW 210,000) in their first month regardless of vehicle type.
“With the roll-out of ‘TAGO PAY’, we have completed a more extensive range of online car rental products in addition to both ‘Long-term New Car Rental’ lessening the burden of initial cost and ‘Long-term Secondhand Car Rental’ allowing customers to rent well-managed used vehicles at reasonable prices. By doing so, we can give more options to our customers,” said an SK rent-a-car official. He also added that, “going forward, we will continue to bring a breath of fresh air into our customers’ mobility life by launching various products and services.”
