- “We will contribute to overcoming the climate crisis by striving to achieve Net Zero 2040.”
SK Networks has released sustainability reports since 2018, consistently communicating its eco-friendly activities with stakeholders. Now, the company has proven its ESG management practices at an international level.
On March 14, SK Networks (CEO: Hojeong Lee) announced that it won the Carbon Management Sector Honors in the industrial materials category at the 2023 CDP Korea Awards held at the GLAD Hotel Yeouido Seoul on the 13th.
CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) is an international non-profit organization and ESG rating agency that _uates and discloses climate change responses and carbon business management strategies of major listed companies worldwide. CDP asks major global companies to disclose their environment-related business management information for analysis and publishes reports annually. This supports ESG corporate ratings and investments by global financial institutions. CDP, along with the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, is known as the most credible indicator for _uating corporate sustainability.
At the ceremony, SK Networks received the Sector Honors Award in the industrial materials category. This recognition is the result of the _uation of SK Networks’ carbon neutrality practices and transparent information disclosure efforts by various stakeholders, including investors.
This award was made possible following SK Networks’ previous achievement of acquiring Leadership A in the Climate Change category at the 2023 CDP _uation last month. In fact, only 346 companies (1.5%) out of approximately 23,200 companies worldwide that participated in the assessment were given a Leadership A rating. In South Korea, only 10 companies, including SK Networks, earned an A rating.
Notably, SK Networks was recognized for its efforts in joining several global initiatives and refining detailed action plans to achieve Net Zero 2040. Last year, the company had its phased targets for carbon neutrality implementation approved by SBTi (Science-Based Targets initiative), ensuring the objectivity of greenhouse gas reduction targets. Before this, in 2022, SK Networks asserted advocacy to TCFD (Task force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures), after which it transparently disclosed specific goals, strategies, and achievements for addressing climate change and achieving carbon neutrality.
SK Networks plans to continue to enhance its eco-friendly management system, including that of its investee companies.
“The award and _uation we received from CDP acknowledge our systematic efforts towards a sustainable future,” said an SK Networks executive. “We will continue strengthening ESG management and enhancing practical efforts to achieve Net Zero 2040. Through this, we will increase the value and happiness of our stakeholders, too.”
