SK rent-a-car, the business leader in the eco-friendly electric vehicles era, brings more opportunities to drive new EVs on Jeju Island, a tourism destination.
SK rent-a-car (CEO: Hwang Il-moon) became the first in the industry to place 'Polestar 2', a Swedish high-performance premium electric vehicle model, in the Jeju branch. They will be offered as a short-term rental deal for travelers.
Polestar 2 surpassed 4,000 pre-orders within a week of its first release in Korea in January and received great feedback in terms of performance and design at the 'EV Awards 2022' hosted by the Ministry of Environment in March. It is a popular electric vehicle selected as the 'EV Sedan of the Year'. The detailed trim of the Polestar 2 the Jeju branch operates is a long-range single-motor that is highly preferred by more than 90% of customers who purchased it. The model is capable of covering 417km on a single charge, which is more than enough to drive around the island (about 250km for a full circle).
The model is included with the Plus Package and Pilot Package options. A patented ventilation-type sub-woofer is installed on the exterior rear wheel housing to minimize external noise from the vehicle, and a total of 13 Harman Kardon’s premium speakers elevate the immersive feeling of music inside the car, allowing the users to enjoy the abundance of Jeju travel. In addition, there are various convenient features for safe driving, such as 'Pilot Assist' to help keep driving at the center of the lane and '360-degree camera view' to assist in parking in narrow spaces.
Currently, SK rent-a-car’s Jeju branch is equipped with a variety of electric vehicles, including Hyundai ‘IONIQ 5,’ Kia ‘EV6’ and ‘Niro,’ as well as Tesla ‘Model 3.’ Now it newly added 30 new ‘Polestar 2’. This new addition will present diverse options for EV users, serving as a platform to expand our customers’ experience with EVs.
The Jeju branch provide fully-charged EVs while gifting the card that can be used for about 1000 EV chargers run by ‘Happy Charger’ at major attractions on the island for free of charge. These efforts raise customer satisfaction, alleviating their burden of charging.
In June last year, SK rent-a-car, which operates the largest scale short-term rental car business in Jeju, announced its plan to build Korea’s largest complex dedicated to electric vehicles. The company is in the process of gradually implementing the transition from 3,000 internal combustion engine vehicles to various domestic and foreign electric vehicles, targeting completion by 2025. The aim is to contribute to the upcoming eco-friendly mobility life while offering ample EV experience for customers visiting Jeju, Korea's most prominent travel destination.
An SK rent-a-car official said, “we plan to bring more diverse opportunities related to EV for our customers by preemptively introducing vehicles upon the launch of new EVs in and outside Korea.” He added, “we will endeavor to create the top-notch EV complex that is unparalleled globally.”
