SK rent-a-car (CEO: Hwang Il-moon) announced on 8th that the company has won the grand prize in the rental car area of the ‘National Service Awards 2021’.
The 'National Service Awards' has been hosted by the Institute for Industrial Policy Studies (IPS), a corporation under the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy. The corporation announces excellent services that represent Korea in each sector and are widely loved by consumers based on data accumulated over many years, such as the database of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the information system for domestic company status. On the basis of the Korean industry standard classification, it _uates each factor, including service value _uation, customer satisfaction, as well as marketing and communication.
SK rent-a-Car was highly acknowledged for its contribution to leading the industry and elevating customer value by launching a variety of products and services that not only are the first and best but also reflect customer trends in the rental car industry.
With an aim to step up as an 'eco-friendly rental company' in the rapidly changing mobility environment, the company declared a transition to 'Electric Vehicle-centered Mobility Service Provider', taking concrete steps to implement it with top-tier industry leaders.
In March, the company announced its plan to switch all of its existing rental cars into eco-friendly cars by 2030, partaking in the ‘K-EV100’ hosted by the Ministry of Environment. As the first step, the company is currently using a total of KRW 170 billion in purchasing eco-friendly electric vehicles, including KRW 98 billion in green bonds issued for the first time since its inception in February of this year.
SK rent-a-car held a declaration ceremony to create Korea’s largest EV-exclusive complex in Jeju. Together with various partners such as Jeju Provincial Government, KEPCO, Hyundai Motor Company, Kia, and Tesla Korea, the company has a plan to introduce 3,000 EVs by 2025 and build a charging facility with a 7200kW simultaneous charging capacity. On top of that, a cultural multicomplex, where cars and people can charge and rest simultaneously, is to be created. The company will establish buildings and facilities using an eco-friendly construction method by September next year. It will take around KRW 40.6 billion invested in the Jeju branch plot and its Seogwipo site, which are 23,800 and 3,300 square meters, respectively.
SK rent-a-car will be able to annually reduce 10,000 tons of carbon dioxide, 40 tons of air pollutants, and 44,000 liters of waste oil through 3,000 EVs. It will enable the company to actively implement SK Group’s ESG management practice while striving to make ‘Carbon Free Island (CFI) 2030’ for Jeju Island.
“As part of the transition to an eco-friendly EV-centered mobility service provider, we pushed forward various activities, and they were highly valued,” an official from SK rent-a-car said. He also added, “we will further enhance customer value with our innovative products and services in line with various industry trends as the National Service Awards prize winner.”
