- “We will make our win-win cooperation with small and medium-sized rental companies more diverse and concrete, continuously striving to create the comprehensive total management solution for cars”
SK rent-a-car (CEO: Hwang Il-moon) joined forces with TeamO2 (CEO: Hong Seong-joo), which operates ‘CARMORE’, the No.1 application for comparing rental car prices to help small and medium-sized rental car companies efficiently manage their vehicles.
The two companies announced on 18th that they had signed a ‘business agreement for joint development of Smartlink for rental cars’ at SK rent-a-car headquarters located in Jongno-gu, Seoul on May 17th. A total of eight officials, including SK rent-a-car CEO Hwang Il-moon and TeamO2 CEO Hong Seong-joo attended the signing ceremony.
Through the agreement, SK rent-a-car equipped with 34 years of experience and know-how in rental car operation will combine its vehicle total management solution called ‘Smartlink’ with a car management ERP program, ‘CARMORE Partners’ developed by TeamO2. The collaboration will be the platform to provide a solution tailored for some 37,000 vehicles operated by 435 small and medium-sized rental companies.
The customized solution for small and medium-sized car rental companies can be broadly divided into ▲ idle vehicle management ▲ drawing up/managing a contract ▲ car maintenance and inspection management. CARMORE digitized idle vehicle management and contract that used to be manually operated while enabling systematic and reasonable management for small and medium-sized rental car companies by informing car maintenance and inspection schedule in advance.
SK rent-a-car’s ‘Smartlink’ device installed in the vehicle allows real-time monitoring and inspection of car condition 24 hours a day, raising the efficiency of car management. For instance, a smartphone application or computer website conveniently notifies the replacement cycle based on the actual mileage of a car whereas consumables were used to be replaced based on a specific point in time such as half a year or a year.
TeamO2 CEO Hong Seong-ju said, “I am delighted to be able to synchronize SK rent-a-car’s outstanding vehicle total management solution, ‘Smartlink’ with CARMORE service,” adding that “SK rent-a-car and CARMORE will continue to jointly work together for win-win business with small and medium-sized car rental companies.”
‘Smartlink’s client customization is one of the main features. This function played a significant role in securing 22,000 accounts of some 310 companies only within 4 years of its launch. Unlike other ordinary solution that provides certain functions for all clients, ‘Smartlink’ presents an optimal solution customized for each customer considering the client’s characteristics.
A company operating transport vehicles for cash or valuables, for example, could enhance the safety and efficiency with the optimized route that Smartlink provides while a freight company could check the real-time driving and workload of the operating vehicles. Government offices such as Namyangju City Hall and Gimhae City Hall also recognized and introduced the importance of corporate car-sharing. Smartlink elevates client value with its tailored services specifically segmented by industry.
Both companies expect this solution to raise the convenience of car rental users as well as the efficiency of small and medium-sized car rental companies. The solution will be upgraded to support starting engine control and door opening and closing on top of unmanned vehicle dispatch and return system, which guides the location of a reserved car without having to visit the information desk.
As an integrated automobile management solution developed by SK rent-a-car in 2017 combining SK Group’s information and communication technology with Speedmate’s vehicle management capabilities, 'Smartlink' is seeking opportunities to cooperate with various mobility companies, including Hyundai Motor Company, Mando Corporation, an automobile part company, and Kornatus, a taxi-sharing application operator. Besides, the technological prowess of 'Smartlink' is being acknowledged regardless of the industry. It is capitalized on a greenhouse gas mitigation project using electric vehicles together with SK telecom and on SK innovation’s electric vehicle battery monitoring project.
An SK rent-a-car official said, “we are glad to be able to help small and medium-sized rental car companies improve their efficiency of vehicle operation with CARMORE.” He also added, “we will make our win-win cooperation with small and medium-sized rental companies more diverse and concrete, continuously striving to maintain the top comprehensive total management solution for cars.”
