SK rent-a-car, the leading p_ in this field under the slogan of ‘from ownership to mobility’, declared to join ‘K-EV100’ as its mid- to long-term plan toward future-oriented mobility company.

'K-EV100' is a public declaration made by private companies to convert their owned or leased vehicles into electric or hydrogen vehicles by 2030 followed by step-by-step implementation.

SK rent-a-car participated in the ‘1st K-EV 100 Rent·Lease Relay Declaration Ceremony’ held at the Oil Tank Culture Park in Mapo-gu, Seoul on the 25th of March. The event was joined by 44 people, including Han Jeoung-ae, Minister of Environment, Kim Hyun-soo, head of BM Innovation Division at SK rent-a-car and officials from 10 rental or lease companies.

To this end, SK rent-a-car announced its goal to transform 100% of its vehicles to eco-friendly ones by 2030. More specifically, the company plans to convert all of its owned or leased vehicles to electric/hydrogen ones while installing electric charging infrastructure in all business sites to promote the use of EVs for employees and customers.

As of February 2021, the company owns about 200,000 registered vehicles. The adoption of 20,000 EVs enables around 260,000 tons of carbon dioxide mitigation a year, which is equivalent to planting about 40 million pine trees.

In addition, if it induces constant speed driving and prevents sudden acceleration/braking through Smartlink and Smartcare, its eco-friendly driving support solutions, around 32,000 tons of carbon dioxide will be saved every year. (Based on the Eco-driving participation rate of registered vehicles at 50%)

On top of that, corporate customers can also curtail greenhouse gas emissions by using vehicles outside the business hours. The company plans to lower carbon dioxide annually by about 31,000 tons using Smartlink equipped with corporate car sharing function. (Based on the carsharing ratio of registered vehicles at 20%)

With an aspiration to take the lead in supplying eco-friendly vehicles in Korea, SK rent-a-car will provide a differentiated service for EV-rental customers with 'EV All-in-One' through Hyundai IONIQ 5, Kia EV6 and other models, to be distributed in the domestic market this year.

The 'EV All-in-One', is a product launched last October unlimitedly covering the EV charging fees, which is unprecedented not only in the domestic industry but also worldwide. It was inspired by unlimited data plan of a smartphone. Because the product already includes monthly rental and charging fee, customers can simply pay for the rental fee to enjoy free charges during the contract period. More than 7,000 quick chargers owned by the Korea Electric Power Corporation and the Ministry of Environment (about 80% of charging stations nationwide) within the agreed-upon distance are available. Customers can easily utilize them with SK rent-a-car’s charging card after the simple user authentication without additional payment. (Yet, there is no charge limit for unlimited mileage product)

An SK rent-a-car official said, "with an aim to partake in SK Group's ESG management, we reinvent ourselves as an eco-friendly mobility rental company this year. We have shaped our vision by the issuance of green bonds at the beginning of this year.” He also added, “we will continue to introduce eco-friendly products and services to solidify our status as an 'eco-friendly mobility rental company’ while staying true to our owned vehicle conversion plan."
